We all know art can heal, but why? Because art is imagery… and imagery is part of the way our unconscious (or subconscious) mind receives and stores information. You can’t speak to your unconscious and have it understand you the way your logic mind works. Using art as a tool, we can receive and express messages from our deepest inner places, bypassing the thinking mind, helping us to know ourselves at a deeper level and understand what we need to heal. This method helps us to develop our feminine intuition, somatic and emotional intelligence to balance out our over-stimulated masculine, intellectual process of thinking and reasoning. Songs, poetry, sculpture and art can speak things that words alone cannot say. We have all felt that before. I work with art in sessions specifically around the process of shadow integration – which is the process of identifying parts of yourself that you do not have a healthy, loving relationship with… tapping into the emotions surrounding those aspects of you, and expressing them, bringing connection and working to integrate all parts of the self into unity and wholeness. And I do this set within a sacred container that serves to provide an atmosphere of love, acceptance and compassion to promote healing.
